Dragon Age on XBox 360 – First Impressions

November 9th, 2009

I meant to write this four days ago, but I’ve been playing the game and fighting a cold (or something). I started playing Dragon Age on release day, I was really excited to get home from work that day!

I didn’t do a lot of research on this game before it came out, I’d seen a few TV and web commercials for it. It looked great, reminded me of Oblivion which I really like playing. With that, I pre-ordered the game.

It started out well, creating a character and all the standard RPG goodness. Like I usually do, I created a rogue character. I was looking forward to some sneaking around.

As most people know, the first part of Dragon Age is your character origin. It may or may not have much to do with your character type because it is more based on your character’s history and what brings him/her to fight with the Grey Wardens. Since I knew this would happen, I wasn’t disappointed when the first part of the game didn’t give me any chance to sneak around for completing missions. It was also neat to get a backstory that wasn’t all cutscenes.

I’m about 16 hours into the game now. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not 16 hours into the main storyline – I get easily sidetracked. I am doing every quest I can get my hands on.

There are some rouge-type quests I’ve found. Stealing, breaking in, assassination. You know, the normal stuff. The thing is, the main campain and most quests are all hack and slash.

I was really hoping there would be more options for my rougue skills in the main campaign, maybe I’m just not there yet. Hard to tell (I’m not going to go look at walk-throughs or anything).

I’m not real keen on the fighting style so far, seems like the control for the hacking and the slashing is a bit sluggish. I think that has to do with strength, armour, etc…but I dont really want to look into it so much – I just want to play and have fun.

Overall a good game and I’m having fun, I jut wish there were more reasons to be a rougue. If anyone asks me I’ll recommend becoming a warrior, maybe a mage.

What’s So Cool About Winter

October 28th, 2009

Winter is here, even in Las Vegas. Today it was only 64 when I went to work. It was a nice cloudy dark day, though the wind did kick up by about 9:30am. I’m not a fan of wind, but since it brought clouds and cool temperatures with it, I didn’t mind so much.

I love winter. I know some people that hate winter, but I think they are nuts! The first thing you have to understand is that I am a girl. A girl who doesn’t like to carry a purse (actually, I don’t own a purse). Of course it might not seem like a problem to some, but I am also a girl who likes to carry a lot of stuff with her: iPhone, digital camera, small notebook, pen, wallet, DSi.

The summertime here in Las Vegas is HOT. A girl who wants to carry gear and no purse has a problem here. Jeans pockets can only hold so much (wallet, iphone, keys).

However, at the end of the hot summers everything changes. Once October is coming to an end, that’s when the weather is a girl’s best friend.

FINALLY I can wear a coat, jacket, or hoodie with pockets gallore! FINALLY I can carry everything I want to carry without having to haul a camera bag or laptop bag around on my shoulder. FINALLY I can do things outside without getting heat stroke.

Winter is wonderful and I’m very excited that it’s finally here!
